Well, we're just about at brunch time on the day after Christmas. A winter advisory will be taking effect very shortly. Snow, ice, and freezing rain are in our forecast for this afternoon and this evening. Now, doesn't that sound simply wonderful. Our temps are sitting just below the 30 (F) degree mark and are not expected to rise much. This is how it goes.
Yesterday was Christmas and it was nice and quiet... mostly. My neighbors did pop their volume up for a bit, so filled the same Christmas spirit, I popped mine up, too. I put on some terrible Christmasy romance on Netflix with voluminous string orchestrations. And, as expected, they shortly dropped their volume down to an acceptable level. This was me being the good neighbor and reminding them that I can be just as loud as they are, something they are not too particularly fond of.
Otherwise, yesterday was fairly quiet. Howie and I ate ham and scalloped potatoes. Both were delicious. I have leftovers will will keep my belly happy for the next week.
I did have breakfast with my brother this morning, the reason this is a mid-morning post rather than morning. He's fine. He has a well paying job now. It's 12 month contract. He's going to try for an extension, if you getting himself permanently hired. He hasn't said so, but I suspect he and his wife had accumulated a lot of debt. He also reminded me he's out of touch with what's been happening with the Orange Anus. So, I did some enlightening.
And I watched City of Shadows on Neflix. This is an intense psychological thriller. And it was good. Some might find a few of the scenes a bit grisly, burnt cadavers can be disgusting.
I have stopped watching the "news" as it is less news and more opinion; I get my news from websites I trust where the stories present facts and not thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIn the morning, I like to glance over headlines, but more so to see how much they differ from articles I see online from people I consider to be far more reputable.
DeleteWe always used to watch the news every day when I was growing up (and that was when you could probably still trust the BBC). Now though, nah, I don't trust any of them because they pump out whatever their owners political bias is. There are a lot of good independent news channels on places like Youtube though, although I can see your brother's point - sometimes no news is good news - or ignorance can be bliss!
ReplyDeleteI never watch the nightly news. Most of the information I get comes from the Internet. As for my brother, he will only ever vote for the candidate very loudly, and very publicly, claims to be a devout Christian.
DeleteEven some of the news up here in Canada is repeating orange bullshit, it disgusts me. At least our Prime Minister has trumps number and he will not be bullied by him. We seam to be doing better by disengaging with your regime. Our tourism is up, Canadians are going to Mexico and the Carribean and Cuba instead of Florida and Arizona. I hope Americans realize how bad the regime is for 99% of them. I am happy that you had a nice Christmas . We had no snow on the ground for Xmas but next day the sh-t hit the fan. It took till last night to get it cleared up. What a December we have had in Toronto. Gigi
ReplyDeleteWe've had a little snow, not much, and now it looks like we have rain in the future. And it won't only be Canadian tourists staying away. Florida gets a lot of brown Spanish speaking tourists from Central and South America over winter and during the spring, and I'm sure many will be going some where else.
DeleteShocking to see CBS, of all networks, be turned into propaganda central for maga. Years ago, when Nixon was president, my Republican relatives referred to CBS as the Communist Broadcasting System. Some now watch CBS and are glad Trump brought CBS “around”, and that CBS and 60 Minutes have been put in their place. The more reactionary and paranoid relatives think it’s a Democrat ruse. Go figure !

I think Larry Ellison, in his early 80s, made a mistake. Authoritarian governments usually have only one state propaganda outlet, and the people who followed CBS will not stay tuned.
