Friday... and we are half way through the month of August. The temps are supposed to tick upwards into the 90's (F) for the next couple of days. Don't worry, cool days are on their way... or maybe I should say cooler. Soon Fall will be here as we enter the days of pumpkin pie spice. Hhhmm... pumpkin pie spice, source of inspiration for the great science fiction classic "Dune." And, just in case you're concerned, they are doing a new theatrical version to be released in November 2020. This is your chance to see a beardless Jason Mamoa. My, that got your interest, didn't it?
And then, of course, there is the rest of the shit from yesterday. The Idiot Jerk in the White House had a serious case of vocal flatulence which illustrated his total intolerance of those who speak out against him. You know who I'm talking about: Tlaib and Omar. He basically told the soon to be indicted Prime Minister of Israel to keep these two American Congresswomen out of the country. And the soon to be indicted Prime Minister obliged. And suddenly a lot of people were saying this was really, really, really bad. Some Republicans, like Marco Rubio, said this fart stank, but most stayed silent. The Idiot Jerk has a personal history starting vendettas against those who don't bow down and adore him. He wants to hurt and humiliate them any and every way he can. In an attempt to turn public attention away from his racist agenda, his administration decided to release some sort of innocuous turd about his wanting to buy Greenland. These people are so stupid.
I saw this morning where Israel now says Tlaib can enter the country to visit her relatives on the West Bank. Bebe bowed and kissed the ass of the Idiot Jerk in the White House and Jews were incensed. Do you know how bad this makes us look? They asked. Sinking to such a level of petty reprehensibility?
I only rode 7 miles yesterday, and that was with a training program rather than a route. There was construction on I81 and that slowed me down. This evening I hope to get at least 10 miles in.
I also crossed the 30,000 word mark on the next book by finishing the back story on how the ghost town of Nancy's Notch, became known as Nancy's Notch in the first place... and it's not what you think.
When you hit middle age you really only have two choices: you can get fat and lazy until you roll over and die, or you can can get off your ass and do something, like maybe ride a bike.
Bluntness
I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

On seeing Aquaman
First let's get some stuff out of the way. Evidently Ryan Zinke is slinking away after doing his best to trash the environment... and getting replaced by a lobbyist. Qualifications mean nothing to the Idiot Jerk in the White House. We have some douche named Mulvaney who's going to become evidently a Temp Chief of Staff. Is it just me, or do all the jobs in his administration seem to be manned as Temp Positions. Any way, back in 2016 this Mulvaney jerk made comments about the Idiot Jerk being a "terrible human being." So... do you really think he's going to be getting along with the Idiot Jerk in the White House?
And now what some readers have been waiting for. I went to see "Aquaman" last evening. I thought I might see some overweight fans dressed up in yellow scales... I didn't. Most of the audience, which was fairly large looked like your average movie fan. The movie was scheduled to start at 7 PM and started at 7PM - there were no trailers for coming attractions.
The first thing that surprised me was Nicole Kidman as Atlanta, Arthur's mother. She does action sequences... well. Wilhem Dafoe, who does a very good job in a very quiet role. Of course, every wants to know how Jason did... Sixpence wants to know if he "pulls it off." His shirt? No, it's already off and is for most of the movie. I was concerned he might be Jason Momoa all through the film... sort of like some Jack Nicholson movies, where he mostly plays himself playing a character. Well, Jason does at first. Interestingly enough, he transitions... and by the final action sequences the audience gets to see this as he turns from a beer guzzler who takes selfies with bikers into hero. By the end of the film he is Aquaman. The only issue I had was his name. You see, Aquaman's human name is Arthur Curry, and (mini-spoiler here) when he becomes Aquaman he's called 'King Arthur,' but only once.
Director James Wan has a history of horror and action. The action sequences are tight, quick camera moves, quick edits. The horror? Well, there's a moment high reminiscent of that classic moment in Aliens where Sigorney meets the Alien Queen Mother Bitch. It was surprising and effective.
What makes a movie good? Well, if in the end you believe something. There was a lot of applause from the audience because something clicked, because in the end you really do get to see Aquaman.

Diving in
Well, it's Monday and some of you are going back to work. Not me, I'm sitting right in the middle of my Leave of Absence, not that I couldn't have gone back to work today... but why? The discoloration south of the incision is rapidly disappearing and the stubble is surging, thank God I'm into cotton and not some poly blend (can you imagine all of the pulls?) no ouchy, ouchy for me.
I may go see "Justice League" tomorrow evening, haven't decided yet. I would like to see Jason Momoa, fins and all, however
I suspect that in real life he's pretty much of an asswipe. And then there's Ben Affleck as Batman... after 3 films with Christian Bale in that role, Ben just doesn't quite cut the mustard. The fact that he's so unsuited for the role leads me to believe that this was not a casting couch decision, which means someone needed to be pretty drunk to think this was good was a good idea. Rumor has it that this will be his last dance in the bat cape... we can only hope.
Yesterday I watched some Cyclocross racing on NBC Sports Gold, live from Belgium, and where I normally really like this type of bike racing, yesterday it was just okay. For those who don't know, Cyclocross racing is taking your bicycle off road, and then having to ride over an obstacle course.
There are hills

There are hills
and barriers, and you need to be in really, really good shape.
Yesterday's race, however, was a women's race, and as the camera panned over the riders I saw that some of them had chosen to wear makeup.... Now, why would you put on makeup if you know there's a really, really good chance that you're going to do a header in the mud?
Notice, I almost wrote this entire entry without diving into the Idiocy in the White House, or the fact that thousands of Christian Ministers, and pastors did a header yesterday by failing to call out Roy Moore? If you don't condemn, you condone.
