Bluntness

I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

Laundry Day

Well, say hello to Sunday.  Right now the temp is sitting at a brisk 32 (F) or 0(C) for everybody else in the world who uses Celsius rather than Fahrenheit.  Yesterday?  It was damn cold and windy.  We had snow squalls.  Lots of snow squalls.  They came and they went.  Since I'm doing a potted garden this year, I brought all my plants inside the house.
At the store, they waited in line outside... 6 feet (approx 2 meters) apart, in the wind and snow.  Sorry folks, that is not my idea of fun... or of getting out.  Nope.  The day before I did curbside delivery for a bit, yesterday I went out and got shopping carts.  People love to push around shopping carts.  Some actually put things into them, most don't.  You'll see a paint brush, or an electric switch, or light bulbs.  A lot of people seem to enjoy walking up and down our aisles pushing a cart with nothing more than a light bulb, or an extension cord.  You know what I'm talking about?  The real heavy items that weigh you down and make walking difficult.
Today I'm supposed to be a Cashier...  There's no one scheduled in Flooring until after I leave.  Great scheduling.
Here in America it's Mother's Day, one of those faux holidays created by Hallmark to sell greeting cards.  Now, I'm not saying having one day out of the year to make Moms special is bad, I just wish everybody and their brother wasn't trying to sell you something Mom is never going to use.  You see, it's not really about Mom at all.  This faux holiday is based on one thing and one thing alone, getting you to buy stuff, preferably on credit so you can pay interest.  Wouldn't it be nice if just for once someone would say "make you Mom feel special today... do the laundry?"

Now, isn't that nice, a front loader
As for the Idiot Jerk in the White House, he's definitely trying to send the country to the cleaners.  He's put himself into a bit of a conundrum, with his early back to work message.  He says it's safe, but lives are still being lost.  Covid - 19 has invaded the White House and he walks around without a mask.  Let's be honest here.  Let's be honest since he can't be, you know that when the cameras are off he's wearing a full body hazzmat suit.  Be prepared, as the body count rises, his lies are going to get worse and worse.  He may send us to the cleaners, but let me tell you, we are definitely going to put the starch in his ass come this November!

From Mother's Day to Notre Dame

It's Sunday.  It's Mother's Day, a holiday initiated by Hallmark Cards to sell... cards.  Now every retailer in America wants you to buy something for Mom.  Oh, and it's not just big box retailers.  Anybody who has any item or product available for you to purchase, wants you to buy one for Mom.  You can buy your Mom a special phone, or tablet, or bicycle, or Kitchen Aide appliance.  I have to admit, however, this year we didn't get in truckloads of flowers.  Our main display was Toro lawn mowers, something Mom isn't too keen on getting.  Our big sales event is going to be Memorial Day and that makes Mother's Day small potatoes.  This doesn't mean we're going to ignore this faux holiday, rather we seem to be giving it the unimportant attention it deserves.
Evidently there's going to be an architectural contest for designing the new roof of Notre Dame.  It hasn't been announced yet, but designs are already being submitted across the Internet.  I guess about 55% of those surveyed feel it should be rebuilt to its original form, however the French do not have a very good reputation for detailed restorations.  Rather, they have been groundbreaking when it comes to innovative architecture, the glass pyramid entrance to the Louvre being just one example.  People hated it when it was revealed... and now it's iconic.  While many feel the new roof should represent the religious aspects of Notre Dame, I'm fairly positive the secular, culture importance will win out; like it or not, the building is evolving.  Turning the rooftop into a more public space, a park perhaps, seems much more appropriate then the edification of an old style.  The cathedral is turning into a monument for the ages.

What ever design is eventually chosen, you can bet the French will hate it... at first.

The Socks

Well, we had thunderstorms yesterday and since then a steady drizzle which is supposed to continue until tomorrow morning.
My new sock arrived as well.  I bought them, not because of the skull or the spider, for the gecko.

Snazzy, huh?  Big Seig likes them too.  He thought they were a toy and I had to chase him down the hall to get them out of his mouth.
I also got a 10 mile ride in this morning.  Place was called Fallonica - which is in Italy.
The Amgen Tour of California starts today.  As the years pass, this race becomes more and more prestigious.  We are seeing more AAA team riders, which is a very good thing.  As with The Tour Down Under, cycling is becoming a truly international sport.  Teams are realizing there are fans everywhere.  Minor teams that never got a word of press have riders competing along side riders who have climbed on to the podiums of the Tour de France.  This is really amazing.
Oh, and I saw that someone named Mulvaney said the White House didn't need to apologize for that... "joke" since it was made at a private meeting.  Well, if that demonstration of ignorance became public than that meeting wasn't too private, now was it?  Without an apology we can only believe that "jokes' of this type are rather prevalent in the Idiot Jerk's administration.  This is, however, the type of  trash behavior we're all coming to expect from the Idiot Jerk and those surrounding him.
Oh, and it's Mother's Day.  My sister called me yesterday.  She'd taken a present to our Mom and everything was fine... until my Mom called her later in the day, most likely to thank her again.  However, she ended up rambling incoherently for about fifteen minutes, not angry, just moving farther into her dementia.  She did the same thing when I visited her on Wednesday, tying bits of pieces of different memories together, all of which centered around my great grandmother climbing onto a kitchen sink to pee in it.  My sister was distressed.  So I told her there was not much we can do.   Everything is disassembling.  Sometimes this is how things end.
