Valentine's Day

Today's high is predicted to be in the mid to upper 40s (F).  This is a good thing.  Our snow cover needs to begin melting away so I can clean up the yard.  Forecasts are saying daily highs in the upper 30s (F) to upper 40s (F) are supposed to be the norm for the next 2 weeks.  That doesn't mean another arctic bomb, or whatever they want to call it can't come swooping down from the far north.  If that does happen, the one thing you can count on is that it will be short lived.

Yesterday turned out to be this week's meh day.  I blame it on the neighbors who's fight woke me up in the morning.  After the ruckus was over, I should have gone back to bed, but didn't, and so I was draggy tired the rest of the day.  They, themselves, took a hiatus from scrapping for about 6 hours, however, they started up again mid-afternoon.  The loud spats lasted until around 6 PM, then quiet seemed to be restored.

This doesn't mean that things weren't done, though more things went undone than I would have liked.

I bought a copy of Beginner's Norwegian from Teach Yourself that comes with free audio, so I'm using that as well as Duolingo.  Yesterday, I only did the Duolingo.  Mostly because when the neighbor's fight, I try to hear what they're saying, not so much to be nosey, but to listen for any threats of physical violence.  That's a terrible thing to say, if that happens I'll call the police.

And today's Valentine's Day.  I also work.  This means they'll most likely have lots of candy out for the associates to consume.  Having a granger type personality, I will grange.  This is not Howie, but I can tell you he did get a valentine's bone this morning.

Orangie gave a low energy, campaign style speech at Fort Bragg yesterday.  Both his racism and dementia were visible when he said that the Abrams tank had been named for Stacey Abrams, the Georgia State Representative.  He waited for a laugh after that one and got silence.  He also told those troops present that they needed to vote for him because Democrats are liars, and cheaters, and... well, you should know his hatred routine by now.  His approval rating is at an all time low, 36%.  Don't worry, it's going to continue to drop.

Thomas Massie, the Republican pushing for the full release of the Epstein files posted a Thread saying that he's not suicidal.  He's also said that he has a copy of the full Epstein files.  I posted about that.  I'm sure he's already made several copies.  I'm wondering if today might not be a good Valentine's Day for the Republican party, because I'm not doubting that if something were to happen to Massie, all those files would suddenly be released.

Winter Wonderland

We have a bit of a winter wonderland outside.  About 2 inches of snow fell overnight.  Our temps are sitting just around freezing, so I don't think the stuff will be hanging around too long.  Our afternoon temps are supposed to climb into the mid 30s (F) and that's in the melting zone. The streets have already melted clear. 

People ask how Howie is in the snow expecting me to tell them he becomes Mr. Excitement.  He does not.  After answering the call of nature in 2 or 3 spots, he spends most of his time looking for sticks buried under the snow.  He doesn't dash around exuberantly.  

Knowing how foreign languages exercise the brain, I've also started a thing on Duolingo for Norwegian.  Supposedly this is one of the easiest languages to learn, mostly because there are so many ties to English.  It doesn't hurt to give it a shot.

Work was relatively slow yesterday.  I did get a measure.   That will make management happy.  And I do work this afternoon.  This is a short Sunday for me.  Noon until 6 PM.  And I'm back on the schedule for tomorrow.

And for those not paying attention, the tariffs continue.  Well, not only are they continuing, they're growing.  The Orange Asshole just increased them to the 8 European countries who are sending troops to Greenland.  There are times when I need to just clasp my head in my hands just to make sure the old gourd doesn't explode.  We have a 79 year-old man with dementia running this country who has surrounded himself with kiss ass enablers who are never, ever going to stop him.  Doing so would put an end to their own personal grift.  And these enablers are so stupid, I don't doubt many of them think they will be able to hold onto their ill gotten gains after he is gone.

Also, for those who haven't heard, the Supreme Court has yet to weigh in on Orangie's ability to set tariffs.  If they rule against him, these tariffs will turn into a maelstrom of shit.  And, if they rule for him?  Well, either way there is a good possibility our economy is doomed.  That, in itself, is going to doom the Republican party.
