Bluntness

I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

The Clarence Thomas failure

And this is the beginning of the holiday weekend.  I'm off tomorrow.  No plans.  For me, it's just another day in Central PA.  This means I'll miss all those shoppers looking for a July 4th sale.  If you're going to buy paint, now's a good time... or an appliance.  Of course, many believe sales are store wide, they're not.  Lawn furniture might be on clearance right now, simply because they need to clear out space for the next big merchandising event.

There are nectarines on my tree, but they're small and quite few of them have problems, and I'm not just talking about spots.  Some sort of disease, I believe.  I don't think any of them will be edible.  This will be the 2nd year without a harvest.  If it happens again next year, I'll cut the sucker down.  I don't need a non-producing tree taking up space in my yard.

The cucumbers and cantaloupes have issues, too, of a different nature.  They're planted in small mounds of dirt that came from a bag of topsoil I bought early in the spring.  Well, besides the fruit, I seem to be grown tons of little mushrooms.  Now, isn't that interesting?

And, of course, the Supreme Court is edging the country to the right in regard to voting laws, those rules and regulations white Republicans are putting into place to try and maintain control over the country.  What else can you expect from a mostly white Supreme Court?  Clarence Thomas doesn't count, because he's a black man desperately trying to be white.  That man sold out his black self-esteem a long, long time ago.  He doesn't understand historians are going to see him as more of a traitor to his race then anything else.  I do find it odd that a man who is so virulently anti-abortion has no children, don't you?  It makes you wonder how much hatred he has for his race.

The fungus

Tuesday, and I can only wonder what fun we're going to have today.  I get to go to work, of course that's not fun.  Right now, I can say I'm only waiting for my W-2's in order to get my taxes out of the way.  They're done as soon as I get the forms.  Don't putz around, get it done.
I went to see "The Rise of Skywalker" last evening.  I liked it... except for the action sequences at the beginning.  Now, I know there are those out there who need things to start with a bang... however, those sequences had relatively little to do with the story.  For those of you lore fans out there, the ones were expecting every teensy, weensy, itsy bitsy question they had in their minds to be answered... it doesn't happen.  I didn't buy my ticket, popcorn, and beverage just so I could sit in my seat checking off boxes on a laundry lore list I don't have.  As I said, I liked it.
And by now, just about everybody in the world and his brother and sister realize the Idiot Jerk's dust up in the Middle East is all part of his re-election strategy.  Also, by most accounts, unless you're one of his brain dead supporters, that strategy is failing.  But then you have to remember he was born to fail.  That's what six bankruptcies tell you.  Oh, wait he was a hit among a certain crowd on his Reality TV show...  The sad thing is, he believes the camera is still rolling.  The truth is he spends a lot of his time playing golf and making bad decisions.  He keeps his Christian base happy by throwing them another Big Mac every now and then.  Their morals are just as corrupt as his.
And finally... yesterday, as I was cleaning up the yard (I have big dogs) I made a startling discovery:
A winter mushroom.

I looked on line to see if I could identify this fungus...  Nope.  Don't worry, I'm not about to eat it, but I was surprised since I didn't think they grew at this time of the year.

Getting beaned

Today was my day off and, of course, it was crappy, rainy, drizzly outside so I couldn't take the dogs to the park.  Also, I had to wait for the water meter reader guy to come and update my water meter so I didn't start any large tasks since I didn't want to be interrupted.  I did manage to go to the supermarket though... yeah, it's been one of those super exciting days.  I try to always be a very smart shopper, so if you've ever seen me shopping for groceries you've seen me with my phone calculator in my hand.  Yepper, I like to get my money's worth.  Today, for example, there was a sign by some pre-packaged green beans "Save 23 cents a pound."  They were in 12 ounce packages, so I took the total cost and divided it by 12 to get the price per ounce and then multiplied it by 16 to get the price per pound - total cost $3.33 per pound.  I then walked 5 feet to where the bin of green beans you could package yourself - cost there was $2.90 per pound.  That's a 43 cent difference.  And it wasn't just the green beans which had this type of skewed pricing.  Tomatoes had similar pricing and mushrooms?  In one area they were $5.00 for 16 ounces and a few feet away they were also selling at 8 ounces for $1.99.  Yo, do the math.

And it isn't just supermarkets trying to dupe the public.  There was a national commercial advertising a brand of paint at $21.98 per gallon and people came in looking for the paint that was on sale.  Hey, it wasn't on sale.  The commercial didn't say it was on sale.  The paint was advertised at its regular cost, but because people saw it on TV they assumed it was on sale.  There are a lot of retailers out there who list the Suggested Retail Price and then their price, and people think there is a sale going on.  It doesn't make a different if it's produce, or paint, or dog food, the only thing that counts is making a buck.  No matter what you want to buy, be smart, shop wisely, unless, of course, you like getting beaned.
