When you hit middle age you really only have two choices: you can get fat and lazy until you roll over and die, or you can can get off your ass and do something, like maybe ride a bike.

Reality Bite
Our afternoon high might hit 70(F) today. That's not bad being that we're almost 2/3 of the way through October. The long the moderate temps hang around, the happier I am with my heating bill. We have been known to have some very warm winters here in Central PA, where the daily high sits in the mid 40s (F). During those years we barely get any snow, and while I like the white fluffy stuff, the free cardio I get from shoveling the stuff is not essential to my well being.
Retail was slow yesterday in that flooring sales were not going through the roof. After 4:30, I was once again an aisle associate masquerading as a flooring specialist. I had numerous questions from several customers, but none were interested in diving into the installation pool. They may return. The average person puts several months of thought into investing in an installation. This doesn't mean that we don't get customers who are "spur of the moment, we tend to have problems with them. Buyers Remorse. I dealt with one yesterday, a woman who was not satisfied with the installation dates offered by our installers. We guarantee your flooring will be installed within 45 days or less, however not one single day worked for her. She also repeated several times that she can go with someone else and have carpeting installed sooner. This customer changed her mind and was looking for a way to cancel her install and get a refund... she mentioned that several times as well. We're going to end up eating the cost of that carpet.
And what about Adam Hamilton from Kansas? He's an ordained elder with the United Methodist Church and he's running for Senator. Today Orangie's going to take his Satanic presence to Wichita to campaign against him.

Republicans have a Biden Conundrum
We had another night with our low temps in the mid 30s (F). The car windows have a bit of a glaze on them, but there's still no frost on the pumpkin. We're in for a bit of a warming trend with tomorrow's high expected to be in the low 70s (F), but after that our afternoon temps will be topping off in the mid 60s (F). These are seasonal temps and to be expected.
Retail was slow yesterday. Only 2 associates were scheduled for the flooring department, another aisle associate and myself. This means I had specialist responsibilities without having to concern myself with specialist job requirements. I like this. And I set up a measure for a pet clinic! The customer told me that there are no pets there right now, they owners decided to take a break. This is considered a commercial job, so I sent emails to those with a need to know. Since I set up the measure only the store will get credit. While I did talk to a few other customers, foot traffic in the department was light. This is not good, since now is the time when people usually begin the process of the installation of holiday carpet. We have our signs up letting customers know what the cut off date is if they want new carpet or vinyl planks installed before Thanksgiving. So far, no one seems to interested. I wonder if it's the economy.
Otherwise yesterday was meh. I did stop off on the way home from work to pick up a frozen pizza. That's the current routine now. Howie and I share.
While I was at work yesterday, someone sent me a video with Scottie Bessent being interviewed by Kristen Welker asking if she'd have been as forceful if she'd been interviewing a Democrat. I texted back, "most assuredly," and then reminded the individual that the Republicans have a Biden conundrum.

What the Cultists Believe
We were under a freeze warning last night and while there was no frost on the lawn when I woke up, our outside temp was a chilly 35 (F). Today's temps are predicted to be warm than yesterday's high of 53 (F) by a few degrees. Yep, they're supposed to climb into the mid 60s (F), and there are no freeze warnings in effect for tonight. Tomorrow's afternoon high will be in the 70s (F). I wonder how much longer that's going to be happening.
I worked 6 hours yesterday, so not much was accomplished. There were shoppers in the store, but I don't think we made our plan. Being an aisle associate, I don't spend as much time at the flooring desk. While make sure that the the empty spaces on the shelves get filled, I'm also getting in steps. Last weekend I got over 30,000 steps in, that number will not be as high this weekend because right after I punched in yesterday, I had to do specialty things. There was a specialist working, however he was too busy doing non-specialty things, like making personal phone calls.
I also sent my brother several texts yesterday regarding this administration's not so sudden partnership with the war criminal Vlad Putin. No response. I like poking my brother with texts, it brings a little ray of reality into his MAGA life.
There's also some sort of fungus growing in my yard. This is not the first time this type of fungus has shown up, and it's always in the same place. I suspect something interesting must be buried there.

Trump Sells Out America
Well, it's officially chilly here in Central PA. When I woke up the temp was 51 (F), it's now down to 49 (F). Temps normally rise as the day goes on, not drop. Our high today is supposed to be in the mid 50s (F), so we'll have to wait and see how much of a bounce back we're going to get. We are under a freeze warning for tonight. This means that that the frost might be on the pumpkin.
Yesterday was kind of a meh day. I was busy in the morning, mostly shopping. I now have hamburger for the rest of the month. I now get my meats at Karn's, they cost about the same as I'd pay at my local Giant supermarket, but are fresh. That's become important to me, especially under this administration.
I did bake another loaf of bread, this one in the bread machine. I didn't get the ratio of white flour to wheat flour right and since wheat flour doesn't rise as much as white flour, I ended up with what I'm calling a low flying loaf. The bread tastes great, it's just very... compact.
A group of people filed a class-action suit against the orange retailer I work for a little over a year ago. Their complaint was that during Covid associates weren't getting paid correctly for the breaks they were forced to take. Their complaint must have been legit because I got a check for $19.10 yesterday. As I said to a friend, it'll help; Brent crude hit $110 a barrel yesterday.
And, if there was any doubt, the Orange Anus signed an Executive Order last evening stopping all sanctions against Russia, saying it was in America's best interests. He lies. His decision has absolutely nothing to do with America's best interests. His best interests are the ones that are at stake, and only his, no one else matters. Remember that meeting he had with his blow bro Vlad in Alaska? The one where after a private meeting with Vlad, everyone came into the room looking distraught? I suspect we're about to find out what it was that Vlad said to them.
Here are a couple of pics of Orangie that were taken at Mar a Lago yesterday.

Trump's Corruption
Rain is on the way... again. Today's high is supposed to be in the mid 70s (F), tomorrow's in the mid 505s (F). That's a big temperature drop. There will be a bounce back, but our highs will not be as high as were predicted last week. I read that because of El Nino we might have a warmer and wetter winter, think Seattle weather, and that means less snow. Less snow means less free cardio. Drats.
Yesterday was sort of a meh day because I baked bread... the old fashioned way. This meant I was dealing with "rise" periods during which I did absolutely nothing constructive. I used my own recipe and learned a thing or two. The big thing was that my bread pans are too large, 5 x 9, meaning my loaves will go wide before they go high. Anyway, this is what the loaves looked like when I took them out of the pan. Believe me when I tell you that freshly ground wheat make the bread tasty, tasty, tasty!

All Republicans are like Guilfoyle
So, here we are on Wednesday, the middle of the week. Our weather is supposed to be hot and sticky with the possibility of sporadic thunderstorms throughout the day. Let's just hope they don't spawn on or near my house; rain we've had enough of. The storms will bring a drop in temps, so tomorrow's high will be in the mid 60s (F), but then we're heading back up into the low 70s (F) for a couple of days. October temps have been rather moderate, but then Pennsylvania is considered a moderate weather state.
Yesterday I was busy enough to keep from taking any naps. I got a decent leg workout in so my gams are having a bit of a stiffy problem this morning. This is not a bad thing. The idiom "no pain, no gain," is true. Mild muscle pain from a decent little workout will always pass. Knowing what you're doing helps, as does not overworking specific muscle groups.
This afternoon the 25 pounds of wheat berries I ordered from Azure arrives. Their shipping process is different. Instead of your order being sent directly to you, it, along with a number of other orders, is sent to a drop off location. On a specific day and time, you go to that location and pick up your order as it is unloaded from a truck. I'll have to see how well this works. Cost wise, I like it since my shipping costs were $1.71.
Andy my yellows are blooming!

We're Having an October Surprise Daily
For the next 2 days here in Central PA our temps will be in the low 80s (F), and no, this is not Indian Summer. The humidity is going to be on the rise as well. Tomorrow, there will be a threat of thunderstorms in the late afternoon. We really don't need anymore rain right now.
I worked yesterday and business was slow. The shivering snowman, who looked as though he were shivering his timbers, is no longer shivering. People, other than store employees, were complaining. In fact his sexual antics have gone viral on TikTok and Instagram. I watched the G rated "unboxing" video the Orange Retailer put out and in that his transition from G snowman to XXX self-pleasuring snowman is almost instantaneous. I'm sure your neighbors will look at you in a totally different light if you decide to purchase him and set him up in your front yard.
I watched Below on Netflix, a monster movie of sorts. I liked it, mostly. One of the problems was that this is a limited series and there are not enough episodes. As a result, problems and issues are resolved with a single sentence. Something major happens involving the military and, unfortunately, that event is told in a 5 second flashback. Maybe the producers realized they were running out of money. This isn't to stay Below isn't fun, but it could have been so much funner.

Death on a Bot Farm
Boy, did we have rain yesterday, steady throughout the day, sometimes torrential. Not until I was heading home from work did the downpours end. We had a bit of a breeze, but no wind. The clouds will be hanging around today, and the temps are expected to rise. We should have temps topping off in the low 80s (F) for the next 3 days. Then the Autumn cool down is going to begin again.
As expected, sales were low yesterday because of the rain. Football was televised throughout the afternoon. Customers had many reasons for now going shopping. As a result, I hit my step goal twice! I walked many miles before leaving for the day. This is a good thing.
I also purchased a white, food-safe bucket. I ordered 25 pounds of wheat berries (yes, they call them berries, not grains) which will be arriving Wednesday and it needs to be stored. The orange buckets we sell are not food-safe. They are fine for the container garden, but that's about it.
One of the few inflatables in our Christmas display has developed a problem. Something is wrong with his blower. As a result, he's visibly vibrating, and, unfortunately, it looks like he's masturbating.
And in case you missed this little tidbit, apparently Ukraine destroyed 3 datacenters in Russia and all of a sudden disappearance of pro MAGA in the states and pro AfD accounts in Germany. In fact, it appears as though many far right commentators on X, Threads, and Orangie's Truth Social were born and raised on a Bot Farm. Here's a graphic courtesy of Tomas Zdechovsky.

Russian Asset
Well, in case anyone is wondering, we have steady rain. This happens when a tropical storm arrives on the scene. What we're getting are soaking rains, nothing torrential. They should continue, on and off, throughout most of the day. No wind. Not even the shadow of a breeze. That's fine. The storm is brining some late summer warmth up into Central PA. Our afternoon high might even reach 80 (F) on Wednesday.
I also have wet dog. My other dogs despised the rain. Howie? He just saunters around in it, sniffing at this bush, peeing on that one. He has a thick coat so steady rains don't phase him.
I did work yesterday. Time was spent in both the paint department and at the flooring desk. In flooring, we have a customer who wants us to let him pay for his install (over $6000) through our app so he can get American Airlines points. It ain't gonna happen. He's already talked to someone in our Atlanta offices and they told him, "it ain't gonna happen." This happens occasionally, customers who feel they can tell us how our software systems are supposed to work. Stores cannot rewrite code to give the customers what they wants, and what this gentleman wants is his American Airline points. He's returning on Monday so we can "explore this issue." Sorry, there's nothing to explore.
It seems as if more and more people are starting to believe that the sitting president of the United States is a Russian Asset.

Franklin Graham: Charlatan
We'll have sunshine today... for at least a bit. Depending upon which weather forecaster you're turning to for information, afternoon highs will either be in the high 60s (F) or low 70s (F). Of course, rain will be moving into the picture. Isaias, by then a tropical depression with wind gusts of 38 mph, is supposed to start raining on us a little afternoon, though those winds will be arriving a bit earlier. Oh, and the rain is supposed to hang around for 3-4 days. Now, isn't that ducky.
Howie's been pulling the stuffing from his pink pig. He doesn't seem to understand that I got the squeaker out before he could get a hold of it. There's something about dogs and squeakers in toys, they like to run around with them in their mouths. Because they're plastic, it's not good to chew them up and swallow them, so I get them out before they become fodder for his intestinal system.
Things were done yesterday. Laundry. I made chicken stew for dinner. Oh, and when slicing an onion I nicked the forefinger on my left hand... and, of course I was in the kitchen and my bandaids are upstairs... and Howie kept trying to lick it and make it better. It was an "oh, shit!" moment that lasted about 2 minutes.
And with all the anger and outrage about the Orange Anus deciding we were going to have a public execution, I began wonder if Frankie Graham had made a comment.

Booing the Demigod
Holy Hannah! Our overnight temp did not fall into the 40s (F), but stayed in the mid 50s (F). Yesterday's afternoon high was in the low 70s (F), today we should be climbing into the mid 70s (F), and tomorrow into the upper 70s (F), but then rain again moves into the picture, though not from Isais. The projected tract for the hurricane is, however, going to come barreling up into central PA. So much for the United States going a season without a hurricane.
A lot of running around was done yesterday. My mail-in ballot was taken care of and I did some shopping, including buying a new pair of sweat pants at Dicks. There is a certain brand that I like, but I'm not one of those people who needs to stick with brand loyalty, so I ended up buying a pair of Dick's generic brand. The fact that the generic brand started out with a $45 price tag had a lot to do with my decision. Seeing named brands $20 to $30 more initiated my sticker shock. Holy schmackarinis! I checked the tag to see where they were manufactured: Vietnam. Geez. And here I thought Vietnam caved so they wouldn't be hit by the tariffs... so something else must be driving up the price. Diesel fuel, maybe?
I also took a few minutes this morning to check out my followers on Threads. There seems to be an inordinate amount of sex workers and Musk bots who love what I say. This morning alone, two of the Musk bots followed me. While Threads is associated with Instagram, it's not the same. On Insta you need to request to follow me. I get a lot of requests from sex workers even though my profile specifically states "sex workers need not apply."
And I found this headline in yesterday's WaPo simply fascinating.

Dickey Dunkin'
Another cool night is almost over here in Central PA. We got down to 41 (F) and my heat is on; every time I write that phrase I think of the Glenn Fry song, never, ever one of my favorites. Anyway, our outside temp is now up to 42 (F). This afternoon's high is predicted to be in the low 70s (F). That afternoon high is expected to be extended over the next several days. This is a nice way to enter the frosty time of the year. These temps always remind me of that old ditty:
When the nights are warm and sticky
Ain't no time for dunkin' dicky,
When the frost is on the pumpkin
Then's the time for dicky dunkin'
Gee... I hope blogger doesn't censor me for that.
Yesterday was, for the most part, an good day. Breakfast with the bro. Then several loads of laundry done. I made some rice pudding with cinnamon and raisons. My afternoon was spent chopping out the initial verbosity of The Body in the Words. I find it amusing that a book about murder and words might have too many... words.
Here's a picture of my roses taken yesterday afternoon as the shadows were beginning to fall.

A Little Later Today
I had breakfast with my brother this morning, so today's running a little late.
We have a chilly day on tap here in Central PA. Our high this afternoon is expected to be in the low 60s (F). Right now our outside temp is 48 (F). We are supposed to have full sunshine, which is nice. Most of my windows have a southern exposure so all of that bright sunshine pouring in through them will keep things at a constant temp. My heat is set to go on if the temp drops below 68 (F) and so far that hasn't happened.
I did work yesterday. Things were very slow at the flooring desk, which is where I spent most of my time since I was the only one in the department. I also did a lot of aisle work since that's my new job description. One of the full time specialists is talking about stepping down out of his position and moving to a different department. He sometimes rushes through his sales without checking carefully, making mistakes that management is tired of correcting. One of the appliance specialists is thinking of doing the same thing. He had himself switched to a plumbing sales associate so he wouldn't have any metrics, but then stayed in the appliance department because he didn't want to work in plumbing. Well, he's an appliance specialist again with metrics and he's upset because he's not going to be held accountable. I suspect he will end up resigning.
As for breakfast with my brother, he's against the war, yet he still supports the Orange Anus. I suspect this is because for years Republicans have deluded themselves into believing that with the right conservative leadership, massive numbers of Americans would simply choose to become conservatives. Republicans have been delusional since Reagan, so there's no fixing them. He did say that if the GOP suffers badly during the midterms it's their own fault. He's still not making the connection that he, himself, is one of the millions who are to blame simply because of who they elected.
And, of course, last night this happened.

The Rallies
Yesterday our weather was crappy. Overcast skies, with drizzles throughout the day, and a high in the low 60s (F). Last night I turned on my heat. The thermostat is set at 68 (F). I wouldn't mind the low temps, but I truly am tired of all the precipitation we've been getting. We're supposed to have sunshine for the rest of the week with temps in the mid 70s (F). I was hoping the transition to Autumn would be quick, however these weather patterns are dashing my hopes.
Something's up with blogger again. Bob's Saturday post showed up this morning with a posting time of 0800 this morning, however it's 0732.
I worked in the paint department on Saturday with a paint associate who used to be a doors and windows specialist until they started moving people around. She's unhappy. Her hours were cut. However, besides her part-time job with the orange retailer, she has a full time job with the state that pays well. She was complaining because her husband was up for a promotion and didn't get it. And all the while I'm thinking, maybe she shouldn't have bought that Lexus last year, the one she told me she still owes $26,000 on. The icing on the cake is that she is a Republican and a supporter of the pedo in the White House, and she is still waiting for him to make things great again.
So, I plucked my last tomato from my garden this morning. This is a beefsteak tomato, however, when you see it next to a butter knife you know it's not that beefy.

Prepare Yourself
We had a few showers yesterday afternoon around 4 PM as the cold front moved over us heading eastward. No terrible storms announced the arrival of cooler temps, but they are here. For a few brief days T-shirt and shorts weather returned. Those temps are fast falling away. Today's high will be in the low 70s (F), tomorrow's in the high 60s (F). Overnight lows will be down in the 40s (F). This is Autumn.
Yesterday was sort of an on and off busy day. I cleaned windows, I wished that meant that the world was a lot clearer, and it is in my backyard. I also bought a new pair of work pants at Community Aid. I suspect that my days of buying new clothing are over. I am in the casual years of my life, and believe me, they are so nice.
Today is a work day, and because today is the first Saturday of the month there will be a Kid's Workshop taking place. This means that my afternoon will be spent in the paint department.
The East Pennsboro Newsletter arrived yesterday detailing everything that's going to be happening in the community for the next quarter. Besides updating me on what's going on in the senior center, it also let me know that our Halloween parade is October 21. This is important because they shut down a lot of roads for the parade and on more than one occasion I've had to take a seriously alterative route to get home from work; preplanning is imperative.
I got my mail-in ballot and it's filled out and waiting to go.

A Bad Jobs Report
So, if the forecasters are correct, we're going to be enjoying the last of our summer weather today with this afternoon's high in the mid 80s (F). They were correct about yesterday's temp, so they're is the possibility they may be right about today's. Just keep in mind, they're not always known for their accuracy. Next week's overnight lows are supposed to be touching down in the low 40s (F). With a couple of blankets on the bed that will be good sleeping weather.
Yesterday was my first day as an aisle associate, and body did I get the steps in with almost 15,000. Since I wasn't sitting at the flooring desk, I can honestly say that I picked things up, and put things down. Also, one of my measure customers was waiting for me when I got there and had a $3500 sale, not that it counts any more. Mine was not the only change. The other part-time flooring specialist is now a cashier. I talked to her yesterday and she's quite happy with the change. The only people not happy are the two remaining full time specialists. Their sales goals and measure goals are now double what they were.
I have today off, so there's some shopping planned for later this morning, and then some mobility exercises for this afternoon.
And this is not good, especially for retailers.

How Can This Be!!
We're supposed to have a scorcher today... at least an October scorcher. Our afternoon high will be sitting in the mid 80s (F). Humidity will be rising. There were showers this morning, but none around my house. Tomorrow is supposed to be a repeat of today except the showers will be storms as a cold front moves through the area. Yepper, tomorrow's high will be in the mid 80s (F) and Saturday's high will be in the low 60s (F). I might actually need to turn on my heat.
And yesterday was another big Autumn cleaning day! There's spring cleaning and then there's fall cleaning. With one you prepare to summerize your home, the other winterizes. And there are also Howie cleaning days, they happen much more frequently out of necessity. Howie is a walking, barking, hair storm. There are times when he is a shedding extravaganza, more so in the spring then at any other time of the year. It's almost as though my house is super hirsute and in constant need of barbering.
I'm working this afternoon, and I will no longer be a specialist. All of my schedules have been changed and I'm not listed as "aisle maintenance." This means I no longer have any metrics and those measure I got last week will be processed by another associate. That's fine with me.
This was a headline this morning's Washington Post and I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised.
