Well, it's Sunday morning, I'm off, and I was going to sleep in this morning.
Of course I woke up at my normal time. The dogs needed to go out, so I made a slow pot of coffee. Slow, because my coffee maker is struggling. I'm hoping it survives until Tuesday, which is when the new one arrives. I can remember when coffee makers used to last for years, now their life expectancy is what? Three or four? And I'm not about to run out and buy an Keurig. With the amount of coffee I drink, that option is just not economically feasible. It's not that I couldn't afford all of those K-cups, Nope. My problem is that there are times when I am really cheap.
And, of course, tomorrow I get to pick up my new car. Yes, I'm excited. More so than I thought I would be. Perhaps it's the thought of actually purchasing and owning. This Crosstrek will be... 'my car,' as opposed to a 'leased car.'
Since this is Sunday AM, the pundit news shows will be discussing a certain Saudi journalist who was murdered and dismembered (purportedly), and how the Idiot Jerk in the White House is swallowing just about anything the Saudis are telling him. It's the buckos, you know?
And then someone decide to poll supporters of the Idiot Jerk about discrimination. In a country where women have struggled for equality, where LGBT people have struggled religious bigotry and hatred, where people with dark skin have been fighting for simple equality since their first arrival in slave ships, his supporters say men are the most discriminated group in America. Since the vast majority of his supporters are white, 'men' needs to be qualified. They don't mean men in general, the mean 'white men.' You know? Like all those white Republican men who want to run the country. What a joke. These are people who are suffering from 'the male child' syndrome. Their first born needs to be a boy. Baby girls are nice, however the power belongs to the males. Women in power emasculate them. They raise their children this way. Strong men run the family. Or, at least that's how things used be. These people don't understand evolution. They don't understand change. They have been taught wrong for generation upon generation. This is how things end. This is how things begin.
On a side note, one of those individuals who read and gave me opinion on "The Body on the Lawn" is dealing with some issue right now and most likely will not be able to advise on the next book. I've begun sending out emails. If anyone is interested, let me know. I'm looking for a critical voice.
Now, I think I'm going to go take a nap.
When you hit middle age you really only have two choices: you can get fat and lazy until you roll over and die, or you can can get off your ass and do something, like maybe ride a bike.
Bluntness
I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

Social Conservative Porn
Saw an interesting bit in the LA Times this AM regarding James Woods, the crazy to the Right has been actor. Evidently he announced his retirement from acting, one of the reasons given was his difficulty getting hired because of his... political views.
And, for those who missed it, yesterday, a 70 year old, white, social conservative published his version of Christian Porn. Yep, Jeff Sessions published 25 pages of the stuff. Evidently he "consulted" with a Crazy to the Right Legal team in an attempt to legally cement their hatred towards... well, everybody who doesn't believe what they believe. The second after publication members of the LGBT community started shouting and waving their red flags, however it effects so many, many more people. because it lets people who have certain beliefs say "no." This Sessions' porn allows them to inflict pain and suffering simply by saying "it's against my religion." One's own personal beliefs become the caretaker of discrimination. If you're a minority, any minority, they can refuse to serve you, to provide help in your times of need. This Sessions' porn allows certain people to look you in the eye and say "you have no worth." It gives them the ability to ostracize whomever they choose. For example, say you just happen to be a straight, Catholic couple who go to a baker who happens to believe that Catholics are phony, that they're false Christians, that baker can refuse to bake their cake because he believes they worship idols. This Sessions' porn not only opens the door for legal discrimination, but for legal segregation as well.
And, of course, there are voices out there saying that this porn lacks specificity, that because of its generalized details, this thing will be tied up in the courts for years. That's precisely what these haters want. You see, they don't mind waiting until the Idiot Jerk in the White House loads the courts with enough like-minded haters who will constitutionalize and legitimize this hatred.

Jan Brewer - wreckage
If I were Jan Brewer, I would not be happy. According many media sources she is poised to veto the hate bill in Arizona. What kind of message is that sending to her loyal, socially conservative base? She vetoed a similar measure last year which, I'm sure, did not please them. These are people who spent their time and money to make sure she was re-elected. They are expecting results from her, compensation of some sort, for their hard work. Is she going to give it to them with this bill? Well, you could say she is going to give it to them, but not they way they want. The would love her to sign it just so the bill would end up in the court system. Do you think they care how much such a thing would cost the state of Arizona? Hell no. They want to raise their tiny fists in the air and shriek " active courts are ruining this country! They overturning the laws we love!" You see, that gives them some justification for their bigotry. And of course, Jan Brewer is in the middle of this shit storm.
Jan Brewer is a 69 year-old, white conservative. While she may claim to be pro-business, there is no denying she is your stereotypical aging Republican. And she is being forced into taking a moderate position. This must almost be ripping out her heart. The pressure to veto is coming from the business community (they don't like to see dollars and cents fly out their doors). They've already lost a Superbowl because the state voted against Martin Luther King Day, and the prospect of losing another because of bigotry is burning their butts. I suspect there is also a lot of pressure coming down from the GOP hierarchy. Every time some branch of the far right manages to pull a stunt like this the entire party looks bad, and the party wants to win a presidential election. "Yo, Jan, do you want to be one of reasons the 2016 presidency goes to the Democrats... again?"

| What a wreck |
It is a sad statement about her governorship when she allows such a piece of legislation to make it to her desk. She was not oblivious to what her fellow Republicans were doing in the Arizona state House and Senate. This was not done in secret, or behind her back. The backers were putting this together in broad daylight. They didn't tack it on to some overblown piece of legislation and try to sneak it through, Nope, they new they were going to make headlines and she evidently approved, or she would have stopped them. What a piece of wreckage she is, either that or she's a stupid, peroxide blonde.
